Skeldon 1978 27 Year Old SWR Velier (70cl, 60.4%)

A 27-year-old rum distilled in 1978 at the Skeldon distillery in Guyana and bottled by Velier in 2004. It comes from three barrels of the Skeldon 1978 marque that matured for 27 years in tropical conditions before being bottled to limit further evaporation. Only 688 bottles were produced. The Skeldon distillery ceased operations in 1960, and its stills did not survive, but the marque's style continued at Uitvlugt and later at Diamond Distillery. This release is part of the period when Velier had a stake in Demerara Distillers Ltd. On the nose it shows barrel, glue, dark esters and clove. The palate brings barrel-infused richness, roasted notes, licorice, tobacco and chocolate, with a long-lasting and intense finish.
