Sliabh Liag The Legendary Dark Silkie Irish Whiskey (75cl, 46%)

Dark Silkie was the first addition to the Legendary Silkie collection from Sliabh Liag Distillers in County Donegal. It is a blended Irish whiskey that aims to revive the rich, smoky style Donegal was known for in the nineteenth century. About 70% of the blend is grain whiskey matured in virgin oak, with 15% unpeated double distilled single malt from ex-bourbon casks and 15% triple distilled peated single malt from sherry casks. The malt was peated to 55ppm, falling to about 22ppm after the third distillation. It is hand bottled at Carrick at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, in a 75cl bottle. Expect fresh apple and pear with dry spiced smoke, then salted caramel, pipe tobacco, liquorice and dark chocolate, ending on malty smoke and a hint of peanut butter.
