The Legendary Red Silkie is a blended Irish whiskey from Sliabh Liag Distillers in County Donegal, bottled at 46% (92 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It is the first release in the Silkie Cask Collection, a limited edition. It blends peated single malt with creamy grain whiskey and spent six months finishing in Spanish red wine casks from Rioja and Ribera del Duero.
The finish is inspired by Red Hugh O'Donnell, Donegal's last chieftain, and his journey to Spain.
The nose is spicy with red-berry sweetness, strawberry laces, sandalwood, nutmeg and dried apple. The palate is aromatic and sweet, with strawberry coulis, marmalade, dried fruit, dry wine notes and oak tannins. The finish is resin-sweet and drying, with a hint of smoke that fades.
