Sliabh Liag The Midnight Silkie Irish Whiskey (75cl, 46%)

The Midnight Silkie is an Irish whiskey from Sliabh Liag Distillers in County Donegal, and the smokiest expression in the Silkie range. It is a blend of five triple distilled single malts, 35% of it peated to 55ppm and matured in bourbon barrels. The remainder comes from sherry casks with a virgin oak finish, imperial stout casks, red wine casks and oloroso casks. Founder James Doherty drew on the smell of his grandfather's pipe, and the whiskey leans towards sweet tobacco and sandalwood. It is bottled at 46% in a 750ml bottle, non-chill filtered and with no colouring added. The nose has muscovado sugar and pipe smoke with sandalwood, Christmas spice, orange zest and baked apple. On the palate, molasses and peat smoke sit over pipe ash.
