Slyrs Single Malt Rum Cask Finish is a German single malt made at the Schliersee. It spends about five years in American white oak before moving into casks that previously held Caribbean rum, among them casks that held rhum agricole, which is made from sugar cane juice rather than molasses.
Bottled in 2023 at 46% in a 70cl bottle, it is not chill-filtered and has no added colour. In 2023 it was named German Whisky of the Year at the Meininger's International Spirits Award.
The nose combines caramel, beeswax and cedar wood with malt and a hint of camomile. The palate opens with vanilla, then turns stronger, with roasted notes, orange, honey and a little lovage. The finish is long and full, with a light woody note.
