This is a 9 year old Swedish single malt from Smögen, distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2021 as Whisky Sponge Edition No.41. It was matured in a 3rd fill barrel and bottled at 57.1% in a 70cl bottle.
It follows an earlier Smögen cask released as Whisky Sponge Edition 19, and was reduced a few degrees to reach its bottling strength.
The nose brings brackish water, damp smoke, wet hay and bell peppers, with apple turnover and straw once water is added. The palate offers brine, chalk, wood smoke, lemon and lime, white pepper and a medicinal edge. The finish is long, with coastal smoke, mint and baked sweetness.
