Smögen – 2014/2021 Heavily Peated PX Sherry Cask (70cl, 58.3%)

This Smögen was distilled in 2014 and bottled in 2021 by the independent bottler Whisky Druid, at 58.3% in a 70cl bottle. It is a heavily peated whisky that spent six years in a first fill PX sherry hogshead. The outturn is 314 bottles. Peat smoke, maritime hints and malty sweetness run through it, and the sherry cask adds ripe berries and dark chocolate. A spicy note recalls Swedish conifer forests. The nose offers dark berries such as blackberry, rhubarb, caramelised cane sugar and milk chocolate with nuts. The palate is full and dark yet soft, with dark chocolate, overripe blackberries, malt and pine needles. The finish is dark, fruity and viscous, with gentle peat smoke.
