Smokehead 15 Year Old is an Islay single malt released in 2025 as a limited edition from Ian Macleod Distillers. It is the brand's aged expression, and it was matured throughout in a variety of bourbon casks, with no sherry, rum or tequila finish. It is bottled at 43% without chill-filtering, and colouring has been added.
The long bourbon-cask maturation pairs heavy peat smoke with vanilla, barley sugar and sweet citrus, while herbs and salty, mineral notes keep the coastal character.
The nose has dense, oily peat smoke, sea air, preserved lemon, grilled fish, rosemary, thyme and bonfire smoke. On the palate, ash and salt open, followed by sweet citrus, vanilla ice cream and barley against earthy peat. The long finish stays smoky and ends on lemon peel and sea spray.
