This is a nine-year-old Springbank from the Wood Expressions series, distilled in October 1996 and bottled in August 2006 at a cask strength of 58%. It comes in a 70cl bottle, from an outturn of 7,740 bottles.
The whisky spent seven years in refill bourbon casks and a further two in port pipes.
Red berries, strawberry, wood smoke and marzipan lead the nose, with salt and warm spices. The palate is deep and oily, mixing port sweetness with salt, oak, light peat, cherry, apricot and a hint of cocoa. The finish is long, warm and smoky, with intense red fruit and mineral notes.
