St Magdalene – 1982 (Gordon & Macphail Private Collection) (70cl, 54.8%)

This is a single malt from St Magdalene, part of the Gordon & Macphail Private Collection, a range of aged malts selected by members of the Urquhart family. It was distilled in 1982 and bottled in 2021 at 54.8% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. The whisky was matured in a refill American hogshead. On the nose there is baked apple, demerara sugar and faint dried herbs, followed by grapefruit zest, white chocolate and fresh-cut grass. The palate brings dried pineapple, passion fruit and crystallised violet, with lemon curd and a light herbal edge. The finish is white pepper and charred oak with citrus fruit.
