Tamdhu 12 Year Old is a Speyside single malt matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks rather than given a sherry finish. Both first-fill and refill casks are used, in American and European oak, with the stronger influence of American oak giving a comparatively lighter character. It is bottled at 43% with no added colouring.
The nose recalls iced cinnamon buns and orange sweets, with sweet oak, raisins and a little mint. The palate is silky, with banana, berry jam and malty pastry alongside pronounced sherry and oak. The finish is long and balanced, with ground spices, dried fruit and Scottish tablet, and a very faint touch of peat smoke at the end.
