Tamdhu – 15 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

Tamdhu 15 Year Old is a Speyside single malt matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks. These are first and second fill, made from American and European oak, with a higher share of European oak casks never before used for whisky. That gives the bottling its pronounced sherry character. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered and without added colouring. Tamdhu was founded in 1897 on the River Spey and reopened in 2012 under Ian Macleod Distillers. The nose combines apple pie, spiced currants and orange peel with pineapple and fennel. The palate is full of summer fruit, with juicy apricot and raspberry, lemon tart and creamy almond. The finish is long, with malt sponge, cream sherry and vanilla.
