The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12 year old Speyside single malt in a 70cl bottle, bottled at 40% ABV.
It matures first in American oak casks that previously held bourbon, then takes its finish in European oak Oloroso sherry casks. After cask maturation the whiskies are married for three to four months in large wooden tuns, an extra resting stage that belongs to the making of this expression.
The nose combines sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes with honey and vanilla. On the palate come nutty sweetness, dried fruit and cinnamon, with creamy toffee and a hint of oak. The finish is long and warming, with a fine touch of spice.
