The Balvenie Golden Cask is a 12-year-old Speyside single malt, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It matured in ex-bourbon casks and was then finished in casks prepared with a blend of Caribbean and Scottish-aged rums, put together by Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie. It is part of the Cask Finishes range and was released in November 2024. It is chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The finish adds tropical fruit, banana and pecan pastry to the honey and vanilla of the malt.
The nose shows ripe banana and vanilla with toffee peanut brittle. The palate brings dried fruit, malted barley, toffee and wood spice. The finish is long and soft, with honey, dried mango and apricot, turning drier with a hint of toasted oak.
