The Balvenie 16 Years French Oak is a Speyside single malt from the Balvenie distillery near Dufftown. It was matured first in American oak casks and then moved into casks that previously held French Pineau.
That second maturation gave this 16-year-old a generous measure of honey-glazed fruit and a subtle hint of leaf.
The nose has gingerbread and sponge with a splash of grapefruit. The palate brings almond pastry, apricot honey, geranium, buttery vanilla and a little toasted cedar. The finish has more citrus and honey, with a touch of honeydew melon.
