The Balvenie – DoubleWood 12 Year Old

The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old is a single malt whisky matured in two kinds of wood. The whisky first spends at least 12 years in traditional whisky casks, American oak ex-bourbon barrels and hogsheads. It then moves to Spanish oak ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a further nine months. A final three to four months in large oak vessels called tuns lets the whiskies marry. The traditional casks soften the spirit and add delicate character, while the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour.
