The Balvenie PortWood is a Speyside single malt distilled in 1991 and bottled in 2004, in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky was first matured in ex-bourbon casks, then moved into port casks for a second maturation. The first stage is described as giving vanilla, honey and spice, while the port casks add depth, richness and length. This double maturation is a technique closely associated with Balvenie and its malt master David Stewart.
