This is a 12 year old Speyside single malt from Balvenie Distillery in Dufftown, part of The Balvenie Stories collection. It is bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle.
It grew from an experiment by the distillery's Apprentice Malt Master, who sourced virgin American oak casks from a cooperage in Kentucky. The casks were deeply toasted, then filled with Balvenie whisky matured in ex-bourbon barrels.
The nose is malty, with sweet fudge, citrus, vanilla oak, ginger and cinnamon. The palate brings candied orange and lemon peel, vanilla toffee, butterscotch and blossom honey. The finish is malty and warming, with vanilla oak and gentle spice.
