The Borders First Release 8 Years Single Malt Scotch Whisky (70cl, 46%)

This is the first release from The Borders Distillery in Hawick, a Lowland single malt bottled at 46% vol. in a 70cl bottle. It is an 8 year old, made in a limited run of 10,000 bottles for the global market. The barley comes from ten specific farms in the surrounding area. Fermentation runs for 72 hours, and distillation takes place in four copper stills designed to give the spirit maximum contact with the copper. The whisky matured in first-fill bourbon casks, then received a Madeira finish. It is described as soft, elegant and fruity. The bourbon casks provide a sweet base, while the Madeira adds deep, spiced and complex notes and a fresh taste of ripe fruit.
