The Epicurean is a 12-year-old blended malt that brings together single malts from the eastern and western Lowlands of Scotland. Douglas Laing marries them in a small batch for its Remarkable Regional Malts series, and the name nods to a sociable Glasgow food lover of the 1930s. It is bottled at 46%, non-chill-filtered and without added colour, and comes in a tube.
The nose offers honeyed barley, candied peel and roasted nuts. The palate pairs sugary sweetness with citrus zest and ripe peaches, with a little spice. The finish brings freshly cut grass and herbs, along with grist, coconut flakes and brown sugar.
