The Glenlivet 15 Year Old is a single malt in which a proportion of the spirit is matured in French oak casks.
The oak is Limousin, cut in the Dordogne region of France, where it is often used to mature cognac. Its low density lets the whisky sink deep into the wood, and the time in cask is carefully controlled so the oak does not overpower the spirit. The aim is a distinctive, pleasing spiciness.
