The Glenturret – 10 Years Old (70cl, 40%)

This is The Glenturret 10 Years Old, a single Highland malt matured in oak casks and bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. The label describes the distillery as Scotland's oldest and gives its founding as 1775. The nose is smoky with peat that is strong but well balanced, alongside vanilla, fresh lemon peel and dried fruit such as dates and figs. The palate has an oily texture, with salted caramel, smoky wood spice and a sweetness like syrup from white fruit, peach in particular. The finish is long and warm, with lingering wood smoke and a touch of sea salt, moving towards a gently chocolatey or spiced aftertaste.
