The Glenturret – 30 Year Old 2023 Release (75cl, 42.7%)

This is the 2023 release of The Glenturret 30 Year Old, a Highland single malt from the distillery at Crieff, in Perthshire. Each year's release is a different assembly, and this one was blended by whisky maker Bob Dalgarno from five older casks: two European oak, two American oak hogsheads and one port pipe. The European oak adds rich fruit with hints of brandy and ginger, the port pipe a ruby hue and touches of red fruits, and the hogsheads sweeter tropical fruit and banana. It is unpeated, bottled at 42.7% abv (85.4 proof) in a 75cl bottle, with 500 numbered bottles released worldwide. The notes describe tropical fruit salad, ripe bananas, prunes and figs on the nose, then brandy snaps dusted with ginger and cinnamon, and a fruity finish of red fruit compote with meringue, vanilla ice cream and subtle oak.
