The Macallan Sherry Oak 12 Years Old is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, bottled at 40% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
It has matured for a minimum of 12 years on the Macallan estate, in the heart of Speyside. The whisky is aged in European oak casks seasoned with sherry, and the influence of those casks is what the expression is known for.
It is regarded as the classic example of the Macallan house character.
