The Oamaruvian Revolution is a New Zealand single malt made from New Zealand barley malt and distilled in two copper stills. It was the first self-distilled and self-matured single malt released by The New Zealand Whisky Collection.
It spent three years in ex-bourbon casks of American oak, then eighteen months in French oak red wine casks that previously held New Zealand Pinot Noir. The four and a half years of maturation took place in the coastal warehouse at Oamaru. It is bottled at 46%, without chill-filtration or added colour, and its dark mahogany colour comes from the casks.
The nose offers cherry, caramelised sugar, cinnamon and fresh tobacco. The palate is round and full, with sweet cherry, orange peel, rich toffee and salty notes, and the finish stays spicy with a gentle sea breeze.
