The Oamaruvian Vintage 2017 Double Wood Cask Strength (52.4%)

A single cask New Zealand whisky from The Oamaruvian, distilled in Dunedin in 2017 from local malted barley. It matured in American oak, then took a finish in French oak casks that previously held New Zealand red wine. It was bottled in February 2022 after four years in cask, at a cask strength of 52.4%, unfiltered and with its natural colour. The outturn was 552 bottles, each in a black box. The nose has wine-soaked raisins, black cherries, clove, pecan pralines and a hint of balsamic. On the palate come sweet dried fruit, nutmeg and salted caramel with aniseed and liquorice. The finish is long, with a clear red wine note and a light saltiness.
