Thomas S. Moore Madeira Cask Finished Bourbon is a Kentucky straight bourbon from the Extended-Finish line, named after Thomas S. Moore, a bourbon pioneer who built the distillery now known as Barton 1792. It is made from the distillery's high-rye recipe, aged for five to six years in new charred oak barrels, then moved into Madeira casks for a further one to four years. It is bottled at 96.5 proof.
Each tall bottle carries the image of a racehorse, recalling Belle of Nelson, one of Moore's earliest whiskey brands, named after the thoroughbred that won the Kentucky Oaks in 1878.
The nose is oak and Madeira wine, with hints of tobacco, citrus and dried fruit. The palate follows the nose, adding sweetness and acidity.
