Tomintoul – 2008 15 Year Old Tawny Port Cask Finish (70cl, 46%)

This is a 15 year old Speyside single malt from Tomintoul, distilled in 2008 and bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. The whisky matured first in former bourbon casks of American oak. It then received a finish in tawny port barriques from Portugal, chosen for the purpose by master distiller Robert Fleming. The nose combines stewed fruit and cinnamon pastry with candied cherries, dark chocolate and cloves. On the palate come baked strawberries, rhubarb compote and vanilla custard, then sweet nougat, candied almonds and cocoa powder. The finish is nutty and warming, with coffee cake, ripe blackberries, walnuts and dark chocolate.
