This Tomintoul was distilled in 1972 and bottled in September 2012 for Gordon & MacPhail's Private Collection. It matured in a refill sherry hogshead and is bottled at 45.1%. The colour is gold.
The nose is delicately fruity, with ripe melon and apricot, soft aromatic herbs and flowers, then heather honey and maple syrup. The palate is heavy on oak, with old herbal liqueurs, cordials and medicinal notes, a cinnamon and menthol mix, and snuff. The finish is long and spicy, tense and tart, with resinous lemon.
