Tomintoul – Cognac Cask Finish (70cl, 40%)

This is a Tomintoul single malt finished in Cognac casks from France, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. It is a small-batch release in the distillery's Cask Finish Collection. Master Distiller Robert Fleming chose whiskies matured in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, vatted them together and gave them their Cognac finish. The whisky is not smoky. The nose is light, with chestnuts, lemon peel, blossom honey and amaretti, plus camomile and fennel. On the palate come choux pastry with sweetened whipped cream, sugared almonds, butterscotch, golden raisins and rolling tobacco. The finish shows white chocolate, panettone and nutmeg, fading into warming ginger spice.
