Tomintoul – Tlàth (70cl, 40%)

Tomintoul Tlàth is a Speyside single malt made by marrying whiskies of different ages, all drawn from American ex-bourbon barrels. Master distiller Robert Fleming selects the casks himself. It is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle, chill-filtered and with added colour. Tlàth is Gaelic for soft or mild, a name that suits its creamy character of pastry and nuts. The nose is soft and sweet, with buttery shortbread, flaked almonds, honey, vanilla pods, toffee and a little citrus peel. The palate is creamy and nutty, with butter biscuit, stewed apple and almond pastry alongside a touch of ground cinnamon. The finish is gently spiced, recalling roasted hazelnuts, cocoa powder and oat biscuits.
