This is a 20 year old Marsala Superiore Riserva Storica from Vito Curatolo Arini, a Sicilian house founded in 1875. It is a fortified wine that has spent at least twenty years in oak, and it has a deep amber colour.
The nose is intense and lasting, with candied fruit, dates, a thread of tobacco and chocolate, and vanilla and sweet wood from the years in barrique. On the palate it is rich and balanced, its natural sweetness held in check by acidity and tannin. The texture is velvety, with almond, honey and warm spice, and the finish is long.
