W.L. Weller Special Reserve is a Kentucky straight bourbon made at Buffalo Trace Distillery, bottled at 45% in a 75cl bottle.
Its mash bill uses wheat as the secondary grain in place of the more usual rye, alongside corn and malted barley. The bourbon is aged in new, charred American oak barrels.
The nose is gentle caramel, vanilla and honey, with hints of butterscotch and oak. The palate is smooth, with sweet vanilla, honeyed fruit, caramel and a touch of cinnamon. The finish is medium in length, with oak, caramel and a wheat sweetness.
