Wolfburn – Small Batch 204 Madeira Cask Finish

Wolfburn Small Batch 204 is a single malt from the Wolfburn distillery in Thurso, the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland. It is the fifth Small Batch release with a special cask treatment and the first Wolfburn single malt finished in Madeira. 5,800 bottles were filled. The whisky matured for five years in ex-bourbon barrels, then spent a further six months in first-fill Madeira hogsheads. Soft Madeira, bourbon sweetness, baked apple and raisins come through on the nose. The palate offers sweet plums and pears with oak and vanilla, then toffee and dark chocolate. The finish stays sweet, melting slowly and leaving a trace of butterscotch.
