Yamazaki 18 Year Old 100th Anniversary Mizunara is a Japanese single malt from the Yamazaki distillery, bottled in 2023 at 48% in a 70cl bottle. It marks a century since Shinjiro Torii founded the distillery in 1923.
The whisky was matured for at least 18 years, with a significant part of that time spent in Japanese Mizunara oak casks. Suntory's Chief Blender put it together for the anniversary and set the strength at 48% to bring out the Mizunara character.
The nose offers dried fruits, honey, sandalwood and incense, with vanilla and candied orange. On the palate come dark chocolate, cinnamon, clove and coconut alongside persimmon and dried apricot. The finish is long and warming, with lingering sandalwood and gentle spice.
