A Yamazaki single malt aged 18 years, in the 2024 edition of the Tsukuriwake series. Every whisky chosen for it spent at least 18 years in Mizunara, Japanese oak, casks only. It is bottled at 48% in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered and without added colour.
Mizunara is porous and hard to make into tight casks, so long maturation matters here. The spicy, woody character that develops over time meets dark cherry, ripe peach and citrus, with orangette, incense, sandalwood and coconut alongside.
The nose combines dark cherry, ripe peach, cinnamon and nutmeg with a hint of incense. The palate is creamy, with spiced orange, citrus peel and malt. The finish is long, with clove, sandalwood and dried coconut.
