Yamazaki 18 Year Old is a Japanese single malt from the Yamazaki distillery, in a 70cl bottle at 43%. It is built around malt whisky matured for at least 18 years, with long-aged Mizunara oak components and whisky from American oak added. Spanish oak gives it its main character, bringing sweet dried fruit and chocolate.
Shinjiro Torii founded Yamazaki in 1923 as Japan's first malt whisky distillery, south-west of Kyoto.
The nose brings raisins and apricots with milky coffee, chocolate and Mizunara wood. On the palate come blackberries, strawberry jam and dark chocolate, with honeyed sweetness and a velvety texture. The finish is long and smooth, with spice, ripe fruit and a sweet-sour note.
