Yamazaki 18 Years Old Mizunara Cask is the 2024 Tsukuriwake edition from Suntory's Yamazaki distillery, bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. The whisky is 18 years old and was matured in Mizunara casks, made from Japanese oak.
Yamazaki is Japan's oldest distillery, set north of Osaka on the edge of Kyoto, where Shinjiro Torii began making Japanese whisky in 1923.
The nose is sherried, with vanilla, dried cherries, dried herbs and fruitcake, plus a little rose oil and mint. The palate brings blood orange, light and dark fruit, caramel, dark chocolate, cinnamon, leather and tobacco. The finish is medium to long, sweet, spicy and warming, with orange and pepper.
