Yamazaki – Spanish Oak 2020 Edition (70cl, 48%)

A Yamazaki single malt from the 2020 limited edition series, released in November 2020. It is bottled at 48% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The whisky was matured in Spanish oak casks from northern Spain that previously held sherry. Spanish oak tends to carry more natural tannins, and maturation in it gives richer flavours than American oak. The colour is a deep red amber. The nose has raisins and sun-dried tomatoes, and the palate balances concentrated sweetness with acidity and rich fruity aromas. The finish is lingering, with acidity and dark chocolate bitterness.
