1776 Rye Barrel Proof Whiskey (57.3%)

A Kentucky rye whiskey bottled at 57.3% ABV. It is the same whiskey as the 1776 Straight Rye, bottled at barrel proof. The recipe goes back to Elijah Pepper, who passed it to his grandson, Colonel James E. Pepper. After years of research and the discovery of a letter from 1887 setting out the production methods and mash composition, Georgetown Trading Co. revived the brand and began distilling in the old style. The nose is spicy with clove and cardamom, brown sugar and fresh citrus peel. The palate has green peppercorn, coconut, cedar, orange and pear drops, with a touch of cask spice. The finish is woody cinnamon, candied peel and caraway.
