291 – Colorado Whiskey Rye Barrel Proof Single Barrel (70cl, 64.5%)

A single barrel rye from the 291 distillery in Colorado, bottled at barrel proof strength of 64.5% in a 70cl bottle. The mash bill is mostly malted rye, with corn and a little malted barley, and the whiskey is under two years old. Its finish comes from roasted Colorado aspen sticks, which sets it apart from a conventional barrel-aged rye. The nose shows spicy apricot, tobacco, leather, summer fruits and a hint of aniseed. On the palate are vanilla, dark chocolate, cinnamon, dark fruit, rye spice and light pepper, with a little smoke and resinous wood. The finish is long, with the alcohol well integrated, and carries vanilla, dark chocolate, honey and dark fruit.
