This is a 10-year-old small batch of Cask Islay from independent bottler A.D. Rattray, made with whisky from an undisclosed Islay distillery. It follows a Sherry Edition first released in 2019, with a stronger Oloroso influence.
Two parcels are combined. One spent nine and a half years in rejuvenated refill sherry butts, then 18 months finishing in five first-fill Oloroso butts. The other matured fully in thirteen Oloroso-seasoned ex-wine barriques from Bodegas Hidalgo - La Gitana, chosen on a visit to Jerez in 2010 and seasoned with Oloroso sherry for about two years.
Blood orange, blackberry and coastal smoke lead the nose. The palate offers dark cherry, marmalade and nut praline, and the finish is long and warming with spiced blackberry jam and a little ash.
