This is the fourth batch of Ardbeg Traigh Bhan, a 19 year old Islay single malt bottled at 46.2% ABV in a 70cl bottle. As with each earlier batch, the whisky is drawn from a combination of American oak and oloroso sherry casks.
The nose opens with herbal pine and fennel, lime sorbet, eucalyptus and saddle soap. Water brings out hazelnut, vanilla and currants, closing on minted chocolate.
On the palate, wood smoke leads into dark chocolate and ground coffee, with lemon curd, peanut brittle, raisin fudge, menthol, aniseed, clove and white pepper. The finish is long, pairing peat with vanilla fudge, cocoa powder and a warm clove tingle.
