Ardbeg 8 Years Old for Discussion 2022 is a young Islay single malt, pale straw in colour. It was made for the smoke-loving members of the Ardbeg Committee and is meant to be deliberately provocative.
The nose opens with coal, creosote, tar and molasses caramel, alongside fennel, celery and green pepper. Milk chocolate, aniseed and smoke follow, and a little water brings out herbal notes and fresh sea spray.
On the palate it is peppery, with treacle toffee, aniseed, salted caramel chocolate, eucalyptus and menthol, moving towards charcoal, smoked bacon, burnt toast and tar. The finish is long, with peppermint and cloves.
