Ardbeg An Oa is an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle, bottled at 46.6% without chill-filtering or added colour.
It brings together whisky from Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, bourbon casks and new charred oak casks, married in a gathering vat. The name recalls the Mull of Oa, the promontory that shelters Ardbeg from the worst Atlantic storms.
The nose combines smoke, creamy toffee and aniseed with dark treacle and dates. The palate is soft and creamy, then syrupy and sweet, with milk chocolate, orange, cigar smoke and a touch of grilled artichoke. The finish is lingering, with aniseed and hickory.
