Ardbeg An Oa is an Islay single malt made by marrying whiskies from several cask types: Pedro Ximénez sherry, first-fill bourbon and new charred oak. They are combined in a gathering vat, setting strong peat smoke against creamy sweetness. It is bottled at 46.6% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtration or added colour.
The name refers to the Mull of Oa, the peninsula that shelters Ardbeg's site on Islay's south coast from the full force of the Atlantic.
The nose has smoke, creamy toffee, aniseed and dates, with a hint of sea salt. The palate is soft and syrupy-sweet, with milk chocolate, orange and smoky tea leaves. The finish is long and sweet, with aniseed and hickory.
