Ardbeg Auriverdes is an Islay single malt released in 2014 for the World Cup. The name points to gold, for the whisky, and green, for Islay, and it is a limited edition. In the glass it is pale gold with a greenish hue.
The nose combines peat smoke and sea spray with vanilla pod, espresso crema, lime zest and toasted coconut, with herbal malt and cocoa nibs behind. The palate is full-bodied and oily, with smoky espresso, dark chocolate, charred oak, vanilla cream and citrus. The finish is long, smoky and warming, with roasted coffee, vanilla bean and dry peat ash.
