A single malt from Ardbeg on Islay, released in 2016 as a Committee Release at 55% ABV. It was matured in ex-bourbon and dark sherry casks, and the colour is polished mahogany with ruby flashes.
The nose opens with dark chocolate, molasses and treacle toffee beside smouldering peat, tarred rope, raisins, dates and black plum. Seaweed and salt spray run underneath.
On the palate it is full-bodied and oily, with black treacle, espresso, smoked ham and dark fruit compote. The finish is long and warming, with tar, coffee and dark chocolate fading into spiced oak and coastal peat.
