Ardbeg Dark Cove is an Islay single malt released for Ardbeg Day, bottled at 46.5% ABV. It was matured in ex-bourbon and dark sherry casks, which give it a brooding, layered character built around chocolate, dried fruit, spice and coastal peat.
The nose is meaty, earthy and spicy, with dark chocolate, orange, treacle toffee and coffee. The palate is full-bodied, opening with raisins, dates, ginger and pepper before smouldering charcoal and cured smoked ham arrive. The finish is long and spicy, with toffee, coffee and tar, and a slightly tannic edge from the sherry casks.
