Ardbeg Grooves is an Islay single malt released for Ardbeg Day 2018 as a limited edition, bottled at 46%. It was matured in heavily charred red wine casks, which left deep grooves in the wood.
The nose combines iodine, seaweed and golden syrup with lavender, damp bonfire wood and butterscotch. On the palate a salty opening gives way to vanilla fudge, toffee popcorn and tarred orchard fruits, with cured meats, paprika and green chilli behind. The finish is long and smoky, with smoked salts and a mellow sweetness.
